 The highlight in the bleak wintry times is the Carnival of course. Venice steps back in time as an international crowd dress and party whilst the rest of Europe hibernates.
Piccola Perla has the primary week available from 16 to 23 February, incorporating the main weekend procession.
Into the spring and summer there is an opportunity to visit other beautiful places. Padua, Vicenza and Verona.All within an hour by train.

A number of visitors have been the recipients of gifts as wedding, engagement,graduation and special anniversaries. Perfect memories even if only for a three night stay at Piccola Perla.
2012 sees the Architectural Biennale from 13 August followed by the International Venice Film Festival.

How wonderful summer is here and the first honeymoon couple have just spent the beginning of their trip in Piccola Perla, then going on to Anne and Mario in Verona.Do contact me if you wish to have a dual trip spending  time walking, wine tasting or wish to go to the opera.(Or a honeymoon for that matter)early bookings now gearing up for Carnival 2011 from Feb25 to March 8. My goodness... fortunately all the latest guests have departed and returned from Venice despite the odd rumblings from the volcano.
Some have avoided the extraordinary week in politics and I have query for next spring...phew
May the the beauty and gentle nature of Venice allow us all to relax for a while.

Six days are a long time when a volcano erupts and plans go crazy. My guests were unable to leave Venice and stayed an extra five nights in the apartment. The next ones were unable to arrive.
Nightmare. Now I find I cannot go myself as my flight is cancelled, but hopefully all will be well in the next six days, in  time for the next guests. At least Venice is a rather more desirable place to find oneself than an airport or port. I sincerely hope nothing like this ever happens again, but will do all I can to  give support in an emergency.

Snow fell and Venice was more magical than ever. Found the angel with hedgehogs. Sottoportico dell' Angelo in Castello, minutes away from Piccola Perla  apartment. The Venetians 'aquired' the angel from Anatolia in Eastern Turkey. The family Rizzo placed on the archway above the entrance to a sotoportego, along with the reliefs on either side of porcupines or hedgehogs, which was the insignia of this family. When Napoleon conquered the Venetian Republic and began taking art away, many Venetians began hiding their valuables, and the Rizzo family bricked up their angel. Then the family left or forgot, and the hedgehogs weren’t unearthed until recently. In 1999 they were restored on the sotoportego by World Heritage on Calle Magno off Campo Pozzi.

Carnival Venice fulfills its fantasy (Availability for Piccola Perla in the middle  of the Carnival 8 to 12 February 2010) . Twelve days in February of Balls , masks and fun.Local Venetians celebrate alongside visitors from all over the world. From glamorously expensive Balls to children's fancy dress competitions, Carnival is like no other.
So the season's come round,Venice as beautiful and sparkling as ever.
I am told that for many people winter is their favourite time in Venice. Scurrying through mists it is so evocative as famous landmarks appear then vanish. Local people call to on another across quiet campo huddled in the latest cashmere and for an older generation, tiny ladies swamped in fur. Cafes steam and sparkle, while heavenly music emanates from churches and scuola.
For those who prefer this quiet Venice, softly romantic  with sunshine reflected from the snowy  Dolomites, winter is the perfect time to visit.
Venice sparkles with opera at La Fenice and numerous choirs singing in San Marco. Fabulous shops from designer clothes to famous Murano glass seem even more exquisite in winter lamplight.
 St Mark's Square softly lit along the collanades with Florian's and Quadrini's cafes inviting one in, just as they have done for the past three hundred years.
Last New Year Piccola Perla was the romantic hideaway for a couple who married on the Grand Canal.
