The Apartment
Piccola Perla is a charming apartment, ideally located in the San Antonin area of Castello in Venice, perhaps the world's most beautiful city. San Antonin is easily accessible from the vaporetto (water-bus) stops at Arsenale or San Zaccaria. Water taxi can disembark at Ponte San Antonin.
The two-roomed Venice apartment has its own external door leading from Ramo Del L'Arco, a quiet lane. This opens into the apartment's private courtyard.
The original building dates from the 16th Century. The restored apartment is enhanced by marble floors and the original beams. Perfect for a couple taking a romantic break, Piccola Perla can sleep up to four people if the sofa bed is used. The private courtyard, where you can sip a complimentary Prosecco, contains an ancient well, now filled with plants.
Description
The double bedroom has an en-suite marble-lined shower room, whilst the sitting/dining room has a neat mini-kitchen which can be concealed behind folding doors. Ideal for a couple as Venice is the romantic city, however the sofa bed in the sitting room can be used. Often two single people like a bed each, or to accommodate children.
The apartment offers a range of books and films to watch on DVD. It is fully equipped and bedding and towels are provided. Heaters for the winter, fans for the summer.
There is a flexibility with dates as often flights are more economical midweek. Payment is in sterling.
An advantage of staying in the apartment is buying delicious food from the deli counter in the local Punto supermarket. Useful too when children stay.
Locality
Walking through San Antonin, the famous restaurants Al Cova and Corte Sconta are hidden away.
Five minutes to the east is the Arsenale, Venice's ancient Renaissance shipyards, where two contemporary theatres host international events. Beyond is the Giardini. Both famous for the Art Biennale. The Lido is two stops away on the vaporetto for summer beaches.
Donna Leon's famous detective books bring San Antonin to life; the Questura is nearby at Ponte Greci. Campo Bandiera e Moro is the local square, famous for the church San Giovanni in Bragora, where Vivaldi was baptised.
